Gina Content Management System

Buggerballs!

Dean Allen said it best, you have to get balls-deep.

Textpattern CMS

What a wonderful CMS it is, if only it had passionate people at the helm.

From what I can surmise, Textpattern is just another client to those in charge. You can tell by the abundant use of Node.js, Grunt, Composer and all these nifty tools web developers have at their disposal to manage multiple projects.

Yes sir, the Textpattern project is just a line on someone’s resume.

Adieu

What broke me after 10 years of loyalty was the reluctance to stand by Textile, in face of the GitHub snub, by the core devs.

We are not connected to Textile at all in my eyes – apart they were just both initially created by the same person who then walked away from both early in their life.

Textile under the bus, what next I wonder?

Passion

Textpattern, after Dean left, has never had a passionate leader. Heck if you got 2 complete sentences out of Zem or Wet on the forum you immediately looked out your window to see if it was raining frogs.

Today’s core devs seem to have qualms with using the code they are developing.

  • How about a weblog entry every so often to signal you’re alive?
  • What about the front page of Textpattern, need a theme?
  • The plugins site is a mess, no you can’t have access Bert.
  • TextGarden was lost, we have no backups, deal with it.
  • The docs are moving to Jekyll, over at domain.io, suck it.

Maybe Dean will come out of his kitchen one day, stranger things have been known to happen. Till then I will continue down my solitary path, promoting this hidden gem of a CMS, along with it’s excellent markup language, and it’s use of template tags instead of PHP.

WordPress sucks balls, ‘cause I’m not holding out hope for a job at Automattic ;)

“I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life…if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.”
