Grunts can be heard

Nowadays, to test a project, you have to install a multitude of dependencies.

Beta Testing

I’ve done a lot of beta testing, it usually went like this:

  • Download zip or tar.gz file from project web site.
  • Extract to my local Debian server.
  • Install project and begin testing.

Regain your Composure

Nowadays I have to install all kinds of stuff on my local Debian server just to kick the tires on your PHP code. How is that progress? Or better yet, how many people will be willing and able to test your code?

Granted, I’ve been out of the loop for 4 years, and technologies evolve, but it shouldn’t make it harder to try out your software.

The only dependencies I should care about are my LAMP stack, that’s it.

Keep it Simple

PHP projects have always been easy to try out, but you’re all getting full of yourselves if you ask me.

From now on, if your code requires me to install all kinds of stuff on my lean and mean running Debian server just to try it out, then forget about it.

I’ve got enough shit on my plate to deal with, you don’t have to show me you’re up to date with the latest wiz-bang technologies, you just have to provide a zip at the end of the day for us to download and test.

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.
